Support Patent Board Chairman Kemal Yamankaradeniz made the following statements in his evaluation of 2021:
"When we look at 2021 data, we see an increase in trademark and patent applications compared to previous years. This is of great importance for the creativity of our institutions and the development of our country. We believe that the key to achieving higher levels lies in education. It's not just the business world or engineers, but the public in general, from young to old, who need to be more aware. In this regard, institutions like ours, industry, and educational institutions all have significant responsibilities.
As an organization that has been working in the field of industrial property rights for 42 years, we believe we play a significant role in this responsibility. Believing that industrial property rights awareness should be instilled at a young age, we launched our "Own Your Idea" project in 2019. As part of this project, we provide free training to students, entrepreneurs, SMEs, technology transfer offices, and members of sectoral foundations and associations, starting from middle and high school.
In addition to such studies, companies at universities and R&D centers should, of course, conduct research on different products tailored to the needs of their respective sectors, and R&D budgets at universities should be increased. Academic-industry collaborations should be increased, and studies conducted with financial support from TÜBİTAK should translate into more patent and utility model applications. Only through this integration of efforts will our country be able to succeed in global competition and achieve a high share of world trade.
