The entire world is undergoing a period of complete reshuffling, rewriting habits and priorities. As global balances shift, domestic production efforts that contribute to the economy become increasingly valuable. Due to this current situation, patent applications in the healthcare field have already become a top priority for national economies.

While the coronavirus pandemic, which has gripped the world since December 2019, is being questioned, the impact it will leave behind is also a matter of curiosity. Many believe the pandemic will have lasting effects on the global economy.

“Inter-sectoral inventions will increase in the new economic order.”

Destek Patent Chairman of the Board of Directors, Kemal Yamankaradeniz, made the following assessments about the world order that will change with the Covid-19 pandemic:

We are entering a new economic era. Every country has recognized its shortcomings, particularly in the healthcare and medical sectors. I believe this period has created a rupture and an accelerating effect. Alongside the healthcare sector, with the new world order, all sectors will enter a period of mutual understanding and collaboration. To adapt to current conditions, each sector will need to address its shortcomings through collaborative projects and inventions developed in collaboration with other sectors. Industrially, we will see more intense collaborative efforts and innovations, particularly in the medical and engineering fields.

“Production and patents will be the rising value”

During this period, we once again understood the importance of production. When international borders were forced to close, everyone had to find their own solutions. From this point on, countries will have to turn to their own resources and solutions, even for the production of pins. The competitively priced export logic that dominated international trade until recently will have to give way to a system of self-manufacturing. Inventions and patents that address today's needs will also be crucial in the production phase. Focusing on inventions and patenting them for value-added production will be even more valuable. We will need to create more brands and designs. The momentum for generating revenue through licensing will increase.

“Changing demands with perspective on life”

Our perspective on hygiene has also changed due to the coronavirus. Instead of our old habits, we will now conduct much more detailed inspections when we enter a restaurant. This implies a need for regulation and re-planning of production processes, revising every stage from the field to our table. Studies that prioritize hygiene will be necessary. We are talking about production, technology, and inventions that will be subject to hundreds of patents as a result of these regulations.

“We must definitely evaluate our production potential”

Underlining that they have observed increasing demand for patents in Türkiye over the last 15 years, Destek Patent Chairman Kemal Yamankaradeniz said that as production increases, there will also be an increase in patent applications, and concluded his remarks as follows:

"Our SMEs aren't taking enough steps. The main reason for this is that we, as a country, lack self-confidence. We have a strong level of knowledge and creative ideas. We have the power to say, 'We're here, too.' We have production potential. We must absolutely capitalize on this potential in sectors like pharmaceuticals and defense. Furthermore, it's crucial to understand that not only individual success but also industry collaborations are crucial for increasing profits. SMEs, in particular, should not forget that they can significantly increase their potential and revenues by obtaining patents instead of relying on traditional solutions."
