The 6th International Conference on "Intellectual Property Rights Management in Universities" will take place at Boğaziçi University from October 13-15. Destek Patent is among the supporters of the conference, which will be hosted by Boğaziçi University and organized in collaboration with Boğaziçi University, Koç University, Middle East Technology University, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the European Patent Office (EPO), and the Turkish Patent Office (TPE).
The conference, centered on the central theme of "Creating a Sustainable Technology Transfer Ecosystem," will also feature three different training seminars. Numerous domestic and international participants will be hosted. Kemal Yamankaradeniz, Chairman of the Board of Destek Patent, one of the conference's supporting organizations, said, "Investing in intellectual property is essential for the functionality and sustainability of technology transfer offices. Of course, first and foremost, awareness of intellectual property rights must be raised and these rights internalized. Therefore, the 'Conference on Intellectual Property Rights Management in Universities,' which we are supporting, is an important step in this direction."
Kemal Yamankaradeniz stated, “Recently, there have been significant developments in the field of intellectual and industrial property rights. Recently, the Turkish Patent Institute (TPI) was appointed as the International Research and Examination Authority within the World Intellectual Property Rights Organization (WIPO). This decision was a show of strength for Türkiye to the world. Similarly, intellectual property rights were protected with the aim of encouraging R&D, encouraging new and original intellectual production, attracting foreign capital, and avoiding problems in international relations. With such significant developments taking place for our country, with the support of both government officials and the business world, we will be able to move forward with confident and rapid steps toward our goal.”
Companies are not aware of their intellectual property!
Yamankaradeniz emphasized that the concepts of "intellectual property" and "Technology Transfer" are not yet fully understood. He said, "Unfortunately, one of the most significant problems facing companies today is their lack of awareness of intellectual property law. When companies fail to protect their products, which have been developed through extensive efforts, under intellectual property rights, someone else can claim ownership. Therefore, holding such events at universities helps young people become more aware of intellectual property and enter the business world. Boğaziçi University's traditional conferences provide in-depth coverage of the subject. I congratulate them on undertaking such an initiative. As the Destek Patent family, we will continue to support this cause."
The event will also include training
Yamankaradeniz also provided information about the conference, saying, “The conference on Intellectual Property Management in Universities will last three days. The talks, which will be held in 11 panels, will cover topics such as ‘Legal Issues and Intellectual Property Rights,’ ‘Creating a New 4.5 and 5G Ecosystem in Türkiye,’ ‘Incubation Centers and the Entrepreneurial Ecosystem,’ ‘Global Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Models,’ and ‘Public-Private Partnerships in Entrepreneurial Ecosystems.’ Additionally, three training sessions titled ‘High-Level Systematic Innovation in Taking Action,’ ‘Tying the Knot or Loosening the Knot: How Should Entrepreneurs Negotiate with Investors?’ and ‘LES 100 Training: ‘Technology Commercialization and Intellectual Property Rights During the Licensing Process,’ will also be included in the conference program.”
