Anti-Icing Conductive Asphalt was Produced

Electrically conductive asphalt is produced by a team of faculty members and students from Afyon Kocatepe University (AKÜ) to be used to prevent icing in highways and airports.

From the Department of Civil Engineering, AKÜ Faculty of Engineering, Faculty Member Asst. Prof. Dr. Cahit Gürer has conducted a project in which Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Akbulut, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Raif Boğa, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sedat Çetin, Civil Engineering students, Burcu Demirci, Necmettin Türkay, Dilan Karadeniz; from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatih Hocaoğlu and his student, Hasan Hüseyin Çetinalp; Faculty Member of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Asst. Prof. Dr. Murat Caner and his postgraduate student, Cihan Düşmez, took part in.

Within the scope of AKÜ Scientific Research Projects (BAP), the project of "developing electrically conductive asphalt concrete", which was started in 2014, has been completed in two years.

Speaking to an AA reporter, Gürer stated that he decided to conduct such a research after he had studied concrete surfaces in the airports of the USA. Emphasizing the great importance of the road transport in Turkey, Gürer added: "The aim of our project is to prevent icing. We would like to prevent icing not only in highways, but also in airports."
