''ULUTEK Maker Çocuk'' (ULUTEK Maker Kids) Project

ULUTEK Technology Development Zone, in cooperation of Uludağ University (UÜ) and Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), realized a project called "ULUTEK Maker Child" to help children improve in technology and software in the summer term, and the trainings have started.

The program that was designed in cooperation of "Turkticaret.net" and ULUTEK, which operates in Görükle Campus, and that consists of 5 different workshops, in which advanced technology materials will be used and professional trainers will be take part, will end in August 26.

Through "do it yourself" culture, the program is aimed at guiding almost 120 students, who are aged from 8 to 15, to become producers in technology instead of remaining consumers.

The General Manager of ULUTEK, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kanık said in his speech at the opening of the program that they have achieved a first in Bursa today.

Stating that they have started such a maker movement for the first time in the city, Kanık added:

"We, altogether, have started the maker movement in a planned and extensive manner. The maker movement is actually a movement that started in the early 2000s and has spread all over the world very fast. The aim is to guide both children and grown-ups from being a consumer society to becoming a producer society. Through the maker movement and catch-phrases such as "do your own project, do it yourself, you can do it too", the culture of doing instead of using is quickly becoming widespread all over the world. We aim to teach to produce technology instead of just using it, dominate technology instead of being captured of it, permanent learning by doing instead of rote learning, share instead of competing, and improve team-spirit."

Stating that the participants of the program will make their own projects, Kanık added: "In this program, children will make their own unique projects after attending technology workshops such as robotics, electronics, legorobot, 3D design and software. They will make a part of these and materialize them using the 3D printer here."

Cüneyt Şener, a Member of the Board of Directors of ULUTEK, pointed out the usefulness of the project and added: "The more we have new generation technologies in our country, the more added values we can produce. I hope that people like Aziz Sancar will be raised thanks to these projects."

Birgül Yanıklar, the Education Coordinator of Turkticaret.net, and Burçin Ertük, the project manager, also attended the opening of the program.
