''Pehlivan Elektrak'' will Compete in the Formula-G Races

Developed by 16 students from Trakya University (TÜ) Engineering Faculty, the electric automobile "Pehlivan Elektrak" is preparing for international Formula-G race.

Faculty Member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, TÜ, and the project consultant of "Pehlivan Elektrak", Asst. Prof. Dr. Nilhan Ürkmez Taşkın spoke to an AA reporter and said that alternative energy vehicles would attend the races to be held in August.

"We are planning to reduce the weight of the vehicle"

Stating that the races TÜBİTAK will organize in Turkey will be international, Taşkın noted: "We cared about the appearance of the vehicle last year. It is a little bit too heavy. However, we were granted the best design award and took the first place last year despite this problem. This year, we are planning to reduce its weight. We have started working. The vehicle weighs 240 kilos now. We are planning to reduce its weight by 50 kilos and make it 190 kilos."

Taşkın stated that some electrical innovations were made to "Pehlivan Elektrak" and they kept working on reducing the weight of the vehicle and its interior design. Indicating that the vehicle will be covered with carbon composite, Taşkın added: "We'll remove the aluminum chassis replace it with carbon composite chassis. If we can do it, we hope that we will represent our university in the race. We are improving our vehicle day by day. One of the important things about the race is that it will be international for the first time this year. There are 60 applications that have been submitted so far. As the university, we are doing our best. We aim to win prizes in the International Formula-G race and have the floor if we can. I hope that it will be a good competition."

Pehlivan Elektrak upgraded

Onur Arslan from "Pehlivan Elektrak" team, said that they were preparing for the race at full speed. Explaining that they have made changes in covering, electronic, and interior design of the vehicle, Arslan added:

"Our friends from Electronic Department are making a new battery for the vehicle. Our friends make the necessary drawings and design for the system in work shop. We are making innovations in the composite body of Pehlivan Elektrak. We will make innovations in interior electronic design as well."
