The 'Eye' that Calls for Help in case of Bath Accidents

Salih Berk İlhan, a graduate of Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Industrial Design, developed a smart lighting system that detects potential accidents in the bathroom and calls for help. İlhan named his design "The Eye".
25-year-old İlhan, who works on industrial designs and develops tools and equipment to make people's lives easier, prepared a project against accidents that can occur in the bathroom where the floor is wet, slippery and the doors are locked, where people are alone and away from their phones.

Producing smart lighting systems for bathrooms, which he describes as "dangerous places", İlhan explained the design he named "The Eye" as follows:

"The product detects the falls in the bathroom thanks to the various sensors on it and calls for help by informing the family members, relatives and emergency services registered on the phone via the mobile application of the product. The Eye also establishes a telephone connection between the person in the bathroom and the person who leaves for help when the help is on the way."

Saying that the system illuminates the bathroom as a modern and simple lighting device when there are no emergencies, İlhan stated that it does not have an off-putting appearance.

"The Eye" in International Finals

Salih Berk İlhan said that he achieved the success of being a finalist in the IDEA International Design Excellence Award competition organized by the American Industrial Designers Association with his smart bathroom lighting system "The Eye".

İlhan, who applied for a product patent, stated that he is awaiting financial support for the system, which is extremely important especially for those living alone and for the elderly.
