Azerbaijan Launches Online Register of Intellectual Property Assets, Starting with Invention Patents

By the conclusion of February 2024, Azerbaijan unveiled its inaugural register of intellectual property assets, with patents for inventions leading the way. This registry is freely accessible online to all individuals, providing information retrieval services without any additional charges. Currently, the service interface supports Azerbaijani and Russian languages. Users can conduct searches based on various parameters including application number, international application number, registration number, international registration number, invention name, patent owner/applicant/inventor details, priority data, and publication date of the international application. The forthcoming phase entails expanding the register to encompass other intellectual property assets such as industrial designs, utility models, and trademarks. In 2023, the Intellectual Property Agency of Azerbaijan (COPAT) received 201 patent applications for inventions, marking an 11% increase compared to 2022. The average processing time for applications stood at 8-9 months. Furthermore, Azerbaijan is a member state of the Eurasian Patent Organization (EAPO).
