A Global Patent Deal Between Ericsson And Samsung

Two tech giants Ericsson and Samsung joined forces by signing a patent agreement. Covering the sale of network infrastructures and phones, the agreement includes patents regarding cellular technologies including 5G. According to the agreement, Ericsson and Samsung will be able to use each other's patents in telecommunication and network products without paying license fees.

Lawsuits with Large Potential Fines End

The patent agreement ended past patent infringements and ongoing lawsuits filed by each company. Various complaints were filed at the US International Trade Commission and various lawsuits were filed in certain countries. No further details were provided about the agreement due to commercial confidentiality. In a statement released by Ericsson, it is stated that the company's intellectual property license revenues were expected to increase from 2 billion Krona to 2.5 billion Krona in 2021 Q2. Ericsson continuously increases the number of patents it holds through R&D works and holds more than 57 thousand patents in its portfolio.
