NOKIA sues OPPO for patent infringement in Europe and Asia

Technology companies license the linkage and usage/design technologies that they produce to other companies for a while and a manufacturer uses this right until the license expires. Under normal circumstances, manufacturers must stop using patents at the end of this period. But that was not the case for Oppo and Nokia.

Following the long-term license agreement between Oppo and Nokia in 2018 and its expiration, Nokia announced that they have rejected Oppo’s offer to renew the contract and had to take legal action since Oppo continues to use the patents related to their previous agreement. It is stated that Oppo and Nokia had signed a long-term licensing agreement in 2018 and the contract is now expired.

Complaints in many European and Asian countries include unauthorized use of Standard-Essential Patent (SEP), as well as non SEPs. According to the information received, patents in question are related to connection technologies, interface, and security features.

Other manufacturers that Nokia had licensing agreements with are Blackberry, Apple, Samsung, LG, Lenovo.
